Love to Buy Lingerie – Frequently Asked Questions

Breasts and Bras

Q: I have a broad back and my breasts are quite ‘dinky.’ So if the band fits the cups are always too big. Do I have to choose between the right band size or the right cup size?

A: Bra extenders (attachments with hooks) added to the best bra fit you can find, favour the proper cup size over a band that is slightly too small for your back.

Q: My breasts are two different sizes – what’s the best advice?

A: For a minor difference go for a contour bra that moulds your breasts and keeps a uniform shape. If the discrepancy is greater the consider a fibre -filled push-up bra and use a silicon insert.

Q: My weight fluctuates and my bra can be too tight or too big. What to do?

A: The easiest solution is a collection of bras in different sizes and sort them in your drawer.

Q: How do I tell if my bra is right for me?

A: Do you have any of the following? Red or sore shoulders, indents on your shoulders after prolonged wear, frequent need to adjust the straps, excessive perspiration in your cleavage, a lumpy look under tops? Then it’s wrong girl. And if you get any numbness in your fingers or arms then consult a doctor.

Q: What should I do if I’m between sizes?

A: Buy the bigger size and get the band taken-in.

Q: The bad is a little tight; what do I do?

A: Buy some bra extenders.

Q: The bra is too loose; what do I do?

A: You’re going to need a seamstress.

Q: The bra straps fall down; what do I do?

A: Consider wearing a tighter band size or look for some Strap-Mates.

Q: The Straps dig into my shoulders; what do I do?

A: Strap cushions will increase comfort. If strap cushions don’t work then think about going up a cup size and down a band size.

Q: The hooks are bent; what do I do?

A: Replace them with some new ones. It’s a bit of work but worth it for a faithful retainer.

Q: Can I wear a demi-bra everyday or just for that special night out?

A: If it’s comfortable wear it. Just because it displays more of your treasures and is therefore defined as sexy lingerie doesn’t means it should only be worn for a night out.

Q: What’s the difference between a demi-bra and a push-up bra?

A: Demi is a French word and means half or small. A push-up bra pushes your bounty up for exaggerated effect. Some of these push up bras will come with removable pads.

Perfect Panties

Q: I’m pear-shaped and my knickers always seem to dig into my legs.

A: Option 1 is trying a Boyshort stye. A second option is to go for a high-cut leg style.

Q: My panties dig into my waist and therefore always buy a size too big. What styles should I look at?

A: Avoid the string styles and go for ‘wider sides’ not quite the granny style but comfortable and there are a lot of what can be termed ‘burlesque’ styles that should lead to some compliments. Check out the retro chic of What Katie Did Next or Enamore.

Legs Eleven

Q: I find tights uncomfortable. I itch and they tend to cinch around my waist.

A: Look for what material the tights are made of, superfine fibres, tailored gussets and comfort waistbands. Wear panties with a full back.

Q: I love fishnets but I think they look a bit too ‘tart-ish.’

A: It’s a matter of contrasts these days. If you wear fishnets with white stilettos and a short skirt you are going to attract the interest of the basic man and the tut of the woman who thinks she’s better than you. When I say contrast think of fishnets with a tailored suit. That’s a look that broadcasts sophisticated sexual woman.
