LtbL Guide to Buying and Caring for a Corset
Here’s our handy guide to getting that corset that will put you in the place you want to be; a woman of daring; a woman with her shape turned into drama.
What you are after
A corset is chosen by your waist size unless it’s a ribbon corset then go only for 2″ smaller than your natural waist size.
You want that hour-glass figure (well for an hour or two) and a full corset is worth it. A corset doesn’t have to be worn at its tightest. You want to breathe don’t you? It’s simple just adjust the lacing to where you want to be.
Measure Yourself
Measure One
- Your natural waist, that is the smallest circumference around the middle or your torso.
Measure Two
- The fullest extent of your bust.
Now Then
- Subtract your waist measurement from your bust measurement.
- Then subtract 2″ – 5″ from your waist size and choose the closest even number eg your waist size is 29″ so order either a 24″ or 26.”
What Do You Want to Look Like?
The smallest waist possible?
Then order your corset 4 to 5 inches smaller than your natural waist. Do consider the breathing thing. If the corset is for under a wedding dress then it’s best to be comfortable, you don’t want any extra pressure on yourself do you?
Do you just want to look slimmer?
Go for two inches smaller than your natural waist.
Corset Gifts
Want to see your lover transformed by lingerie? Then buy one of these for a treat and get her measurements exact before ordering. See an example corset from Matazone.
Corset Care
Corsets will usually come with one very long lace which should be divided into two. Start lacing from top and the bottom. Once you have the corset on pull gently and tighten progressively towards the middle from both the top and bottom and tie them in bows.
You should feel comfortable (unless you like being ”uncomfortable’) and take your time wearing-in your corset. Your corset will mould to your body over time but don’t overdo it too soon and make sure the strain is taken even over the whole corset. A corset is easily damaged if too much force is used too soon. It’s a matter of training your waist gradually.
Corset Cleaning
Dry clean your corset or hand wash in luke warm water (not if it’s made from leather or something else exotic) For a PVC model use a mild soap and wipe (…erm).
